Early Years School Timings

At Qatar International School, we place a strong emphasis on regular attendance, as it plays a vital role in children’s learning, development and wellbeing. Consistent attendance helps children build secure routines, form positive relationships and fully engage in learning experiences. We work closely with families to promote good attendance and punctuality, ensuring every child has the best possible opportunity to thrive and make sustained progress throughout the Early Years.

Start and End of the Day

School starts promptly at 6:50am and finishes at 12:45pm for Early Years.
Please ensure your child is dropped off and collected on time to avoid missing any learning.
Doors open at 6:20am. Children are welcome to enter the Early Years building and enjoy a story with an adult until classroom doors open. Parents may stay with their child or drop them off with a member of our team during this time. From 6:40am, children can be dropped directly at their classroom door, where they will be greeted by their teacher. The official start of the school day is 6:50am, and registration begins at this time. Children must be collected from their classroom at 12:45pm. Please inform your child’s class teacher if a different adult will be collecting them. All adults dropping off or collecting children must wear an ID badge.

Creche

We offer a paid Creche service from 1:00pm – 2:30pm. Parents who wish to use this service will receive further information.

Sibling Pick-Up

If you would like a Secondary-aged sibling to collect an Early Years child, they must obtain a Pink Pass at the beginning of the year.

Toilet Training in Early Years

We work closely with families to support children’s independence and wellbeing. The following outlines our expectations for toilet training in Early Years.

Our Expectations

Children must be fully toilet trained before starting Foundation Stage 1 (FS1).

The school does not have the facilities or supplies to change children in classrooms or washrooms. Children of this age deserve privacy and dignity, and this approach aligns with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

What Being Toilet Trained Means

A toilet-trained FS1 child:

  • Does not wear nappies or pull-ups
  • Can tell a teacher or Learning Support Assistant when they need to use the toilet
  • Can manage their own hygiene after using the toilet

A teacher or Learning Support Practitioner will support children when needed, encouraging independence at all times.

Accidents

Occasional accidents can happen and are treated sensitively and discreetly.

If more than two accidents occur in one week, parents will be invited to meet with the school to discuss how best to support the child. Support strategies may include:

  • A staged return to full-time attendance
  • Reward charts used consistently at home and school
Regular toilet routines (e.g. hourly reminders)

What to Bring

Please ensure your child has a named change of clothes, including underwear, kept in a bag on their peg at school.
